Extension of a THULE ski box
The client had an unusual request. The purchased THULE ski box, which attaches to the back of the car, did not fit the skis themselves. We had to save the situation and the winter trip to the Tatra Mountains. No problem: we figured out how to extend the box.
1. The box arrived to us in this state
2. Measurements, 3D modeling, 3D printing
First, we took all the measurements. Then came the time for modeling. The model was developed in a special CAD program. The model was printed from PETG material. A strong and reliable material.
3.Fitting
After making sure the part fit, we proceeded to modify the box itself. We cut out holes for the extenders. The extenders themselves were sanded and painted.
4. Installation
The extenders were screwed to the box using screws through pre-drilled holes. For additional reliability, everything was glued.
5. Final result
The trip is saved. The skis go in and out.
